Prop firms vs perpetuals

The simple version. A prop firm rents you a simulated funded account after you pass an evaluation. You trade under their rules — drawdown limits, position rules — and keep a split of the profits. Futures firms run on exchange futures like NQ and ES. Perpetuals firms run on crypto-style perpetual contracts that trade 24/7, with funding rates and higher leverage.

FUTURES PROP FIRMS

  • What you trade: exchange futures like NQ and ES.
  • Hours: nearly 24 hours a day on the exchange — the main session is 9:30am–4pm ET.
  • Leverage: set by the exchange margin on each contract.
  • How the account works: pass an evaluation (some firms also offer instant funding), then trade a funded account under the firm’s rules.

PERPETUAL PROP FIRMS

  • What you trade: perpetual contracts — crypto, indices, stocks and more, all in one account.
  • Hours: 24/7. Perps never close, weekends included.
  • Leverage: higher leverage set by the firm — and a funding rate applies while a position is open.
  • How the account works: pass an evaluation (often 1-step), then trade a funded account under rules like a static drawdown limit.
